Call for Submissions | AJLA Issue 12: Learning through Landscapes

The African Journal of Landscape Architecture (AJLA) is pleased to invite submissions for Issue 12, themed “Learning through Landscapes.”

This upcoming issue explores how landscapes act as spaces of learning, teaching, discovery, and knowledge exchange. From academic studios and community-based projects to Indigenous knowledge systems and learning-by-doing approaches in professional practice, the issue seeks to highlight the many ways landscapes shape how we understand the world and our place within it.

Contributors are encouraged to reflect on how landscape architecture education, research, practice, and community engagement intersect across African contexts. Of particular interest are articles that demonstrate how natural processes, local knowledge, cultural landscapes, and experiential learning contribute to more responsive and meaningful landscape outcomes.

AJLA welcomes submissions from landscape architects, academics, researchers, students, planners, architects, environmental professionals, and allied disciplines.

Abstract Deadline: 8 August 2026
Full Article Deadline: 23 September 2026
Publication Date: 4 November 2026

Articles should generally be between 2,000 and 3,000 words and may be supported by photographs, drawings, diagrams, and other visual material. Reviews, commentaries, and shorter contributions are also welcome.
