Call for Papers: IFLA Africa Conference 2027

IFLA Africa, in collaboration with the Society of Landscape Architects of Nigeria (SLAN), invites landscape architects, researchers, academics, practitioners, policymakers and professionals across allied disciplines to submit abstracts for the IFLA Africa Conference 2027.

Under the theme “Beyond Reframing: The Soul of African Landscapes,” the conference will explore the unique identity, values and resilience embedded within African landscapes. As Africa continues to confront complex environmental, social and urban challenges, the symposium will provide an important platform to examine how indigenous knowledge, innovative design, ecological stewardship and cultural heritage can shape more sustainable futures across the continent.

Submissions are particularly encouraged around the following conference sub-themes:

Climate-Resilient Design
Water-Sensitive Urbanism
Culturally Grounded Landscape Practices

Abstracts should be 250 to 300 words, clearly outlining the research objectives, methodology, key findings and relevance to the conference theme. All submissions must be original and not previously published.

The conference welcomes submissions from a broad range of professionals and emerging voices, including landscape architects, academics and researchers, urban planners, architects, environmental designers, geographers, ecologists, water resource specialists, heritage professionals, policymakers, students and practitioners in allied built environment disciplines.

Abstract submissions closes 30 November 2026.

The IFLA Africa Conference 2027 will take place in Abuja, Nigeria, from Wednesday, 20 October to Friday, 22 October 2027, at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel. The conference will be held in a hybrid format, creating opportunities for participation from across Africa and beyond.
