CALL FOR ENTRIES: 2025 IFLA AFRICA STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION LAUNCHES

We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the 2025 IFLA Africa Student Design Competition. Landscape architecture students across the continent are warmly invited to participate and showcase their creativity, vision, and critical thinking.

This year’s theme, “Reframing the African Landscape: Innovative Landscapes for Africa’s Future,” invites students to reimagine the discipline considering Africa’s pressing environmental, cultural, and social challenges. It calls to rethink how we learn, teach, and practise landscape architecture within our unique contexts.

Participants are encouraged to:

• Challenge conventional approaches to African landscapes;

• Celebrate Africa’s diversity through context-sensitive design;

• Propose scalable, forward-thinking solutions—from master plans to technical details.

Students are free to choose their project site, scale, and context, and may submit academic work developed previously. Submissions should reflect deep contextual analysis and demonstrate how design can contribute to community empowerment and resilience across Africa.

Let us inspire the next generation of landscape architects to reflect boldly, innovate fearlessly, and shape a vibrant future for African landscapes.
