AJLA Issue 11: Design of Urban Landscapes

The upcoming issue 11 of the African Journal of Landscape Architecture (AJLA), titled Design of Urban Landscapes, explores how landscape architecture, urban design, architecture, and environmental planning can be woven together to shape inclusive, resilient, and vibrant urban environments. This interdisciplinary theme calls on designers and thinkers to imagine cities where nature and the built fabric coexist in harmony, enhancing both community well‑being and urban identity.

Within the African context, the issue invites critical reflection on unique urban challenges — from climatic variability and informal settlements to cultural identities and evolving developmental patterns — and encourages contributions that address these through innovative, context‑responsive design. Of particular interest are ideas that promote walkable public spaces, pedestrian and bicycle‑friendly streets, and robust green infrastructure, including small‑scale interventions that catalyse broader urban transformation.

Submissions are currently open, with deadlines for abstracts on Feb 13 2026 and full articles March 27 2026.
