Carey Duncan

Landscape Architect

Carey Duncan is a South African landscape architect who has lived in Morocco for over thirty years. She is a founding member of AAPM in Morocco, a member of ILASA in South Africa, and an international member of ASLA. Her diverse portfolio reflects the challenges and opportunities of working in the developing world. Carey is proud of the AJLA's creation during her presidency of IFLA Africa. She serves on several IFLA World working groups and enjoys collaborating across continents. In 2023, Carey received the IFLA President’s Award.

The 3rd edition of Garden Expo, organised by R2H, was held from 9 to 11 October 2025 in Casablanca under the ambitious banner of Smart Green Safe Cities. Both AAPM (the Moroccan Association of Landscape Architects) and IFLA Africa were official partners.

AAPM led in curating a stimulating slate of roundtable discussions, particularly focusing on urgent urban issues and elevating the professional profile of landscape architecture in Morocco while IFLA Africa lent its continental reach and thematic legitimacy. Its newly elected president, Ruth Wanjiku Mwai, cut the inauguration ribbon with Mounia Bennani, AAPM President, thus underscoring the continental reach of the event.

The joint effort by AAPM and IFLA Africa ensured that Garden Expo was not merely a trade show but a platform for knowledge exchange, professional visibility, and forging cross-African partnerships in landscape architecture and sustainable urban design. Significantly, student participation in the event was positive and full highlighting the implication of the younger generation in shaping our urban future.
